Truman Library

The Truman Library web site was very informative. It was easy to navigate and I immediately found my favorite part of the site. I spent the majority of my time examine the Truman Decision Center. I watched the video demonstration of what the students had to do I got very excited. I liked the fact that the kids could potentially change history. I think it is very important for the students participating know that they don’t have to do the same thing Truman did. I think the gathering of information and having to deal with a press corps would be stressful. The kids that were shown on the video showed that they acted responsibly and they did decide to do the same thing that Truman did. The day after I looked at the website I asked some of my advanced students if this was something they would like to do. Some of them were very enthusiastic about the possibility. I know that all of the sessions are filled for this year buy I will try to see if my administration would allow me to take a group of students to Independence, Mo for the day. I also liked the portion that outlined some of his speeches. I plan on doing my NCSS paper on how a president communicates with the public. I think President Truman faced many challenges while he was in office and I think for the most part he did things that had to be done at the time. I think that occurs with every president. As the public we do not always understand why a president decides in the manner that he does. It is not usually until they have passed do we learn the whole story. I think this will occur when President Bush is out of office and possible passed away.
