Miner book, Chapter 4

This chapter was great. It was discussing women's suffrage and how so many people were against it. Even women. I pulled out some great quotes that I am going to use in class in a couple of weeks when I get to the suffrage movement. Also there was information about the cutting of federal funds to help support schools. The figures said that the budget was cut by 50% but the were 3 times as many students attending the public schools. That really reminded me of what it is like today. Another thing I am going to use in my classes is the list of state institutions that appreared on page 163. I am going to have the students compare our list of institutions and see if we were about the same as other states or did Kansas get really good at creating offices and institutions we couldn't stop ourselves.

History 813, September 22

Yesterday I had such a fulfilling day. I attended the Gilder Lehrman Institute meeting that showed me how to use traveling panels in my classroom. They are a wonderful resource that I am anxiously awaiting January and February when I have them in my school. I saw for the first time a new Union flag that was just discovered in 1996. Also, Mr. Napoli was such a vibrant speaker. I am looking forward to seeing him next summer in New York and eating at some great Italian restraunts. Even though nothing I saw yesterday is for my teaching plan I still feel it was beneficial in so many ways.
