Miner, Chapter 5 "The Bone and Sinew of the State"

This chapter was a lot of fun to read. I know that probably sounds weird but it was. There were so many contrasts that were discussed. One page Miner is telling about how the attitude of Kansans was giving and considerate and the next page he is discussing how the moral decline of Wichita and its many immoral houses were giving Kansas a bad name. There are several pieces that I am planning on using in the classroom. Especially the social reform pieces when we discuss Populism. The fact that Kansas did influence people at one time. And I am going to pull in some of William Allen White's pieces on how wonderful Kansas could be to people who were looking for an ideal place to live.
